BUY LOCAL

It’s easy to be swayed by the promise of cheaper prices, particularly with online offers that undercut everyone else. But for business operators looking for true value for money, opting for these ‘faceless cheapies’ can be, and usually is a very false economy.

Let me explain. When you do business with the ‘online cheapie’ (located anywhere in the Universe) all you are doing is exchanging your money for a product. Sure, you get the product that serves your purpose but you don’t get any added value or after-sales service. You become just another invoice. There is no business relationship. On the other hand, if you were to do business locally you would have the opportunity to build a business relationship that could return hundreds, if not thousands of dollars more than the saving you would have made by dealing with the 'online cheapie'.

In business today, more than ever before, we need to be continually building these relationships with other local businesses if we want to succeed and grow.
The Wynnum & Districts Chamber of Commerce is strongly committed to doing business in its own community, and urges all businesses to do the same.

So next time you receive a tantalising online offer, resist the temptation of the ‘cheapie’, and go instead for building the local economy … and your business prospects!

Strategic Plan 2006-2009 and beyond

The Wynnum & Districts Chamber of Commerce has a rich history and has been through a number of transitions since being formed in 1952. The Chamber now covers the Gateway/Port region, the Wynnum/Manly community and everything in between (this includes the suburbs of Wynnum, Wynnum West, Hemmant, Lytton, Fisherman Islands, Tingalpa, Wakerley and Murarrie).

The Chamber exists to serve its members and to help promote an environment that is conducive for local businesses to prosper. The Strategic Plan will continue with some of our prior objectives as well as incorporate fresh ideas and provide a real focus for the executive committee. It is important that the Chamber clearly articulates to members its purpose, value and direction which will assist in harnessing the collective talent of members to enhance the value of the local business community.

The seven principal objectives for the Chamber set out in the Plan are:

  1. To aid the development of Wynnum Central CBD and other business clusters with strong links Between all businesses within the district
  2. To improve the business profile of members and enhance reputations to promote growth and prosperity
  3. To collectively represent the interests of members to all parties concerned at all times and keep them updated with news relevant to the local business community
  4. To achieve the chambers financial sustainability through strong membership and sponsorship programs
  5. To contribute to the community at large through involvement in matters that impact on social and economic wellbeing
  6. To conduct a professional events schedule that provides networking and skills development opportunities for local businness operators and staff
  7. To provide a voice between governments and business and to lobby on behalf of business to achieve appropriate outcomes for the community
